The Chicago Area Baker’s Association held the 2nd annual Creative Decorating Competition at The Crystal Garden at Navy Pier Sunday, October 27,2002.  Ten bakers competed for recognition in Flowers, Sculpted Cake, and Custom Scenes categories. 

The overall winner was Carlos Mendez from Somenek Pastries & Café and in addition to the CARBA Trophy and plaque, he will represent CARBA at Retailers Bakery Association’s National Convention in Anaheim, CA. 

Carlos Avila of Jarosch Bakery in Elk Grove Village took “People’s Choice” and Second place overall.  Chris Andrews of Kirsten’s Danish Bakery in Burr Ridge took third place overall.
