The theme of this year's Chicago Flower & Garden Show isn't titled "The Sport of Gardening" for nothing. The show, in tandem with the Chicago Botanic Garden, is inviting gardeners to "play the field" in a horticulture competition that includes a huge crop of categories: houseplants, window boxes, miniature landscapes and much more.
Think of the competitions at the county fair — with their classes, categories and, of course, blue ribbons! — and you get the idea.
The guidelines are lengthy (just as at the county fair). But, cutting to the chase, competitors will need to bring their entries March 2 and 3 for passing (in other words, to determine if your plant meets the criteria for its respective competition) to Navy Pier, where the annual garden show will be held March 5 to 13.
